Behind The Books,  Bookish Stuff

The Bookish Bulletin: May ’18 | Celebrating Two Years of Blogging & More!

Well, hello everyone! I feel like I haven’t written anything new in FOREVER!? I actually haven’t been reading all that much either… Anyway, more on blog and life things in a bit! I want to introduce you to my new monthly feature: The Bookish Bulletin. I used to have a separate TBR, wrap up and monthly personal update (Behind the Books) and I realised how much work that actually is? I also read a lot of these kinds of “combined” wrap ups and I loved them so much, I tried to do it myself! It’s still a bit of a work in progress, but I hope you’ll enjoy reading this (somewhat very long?) post!

May Wrap Up

The White Rose by Amy Ewing. I’d planned to read the Dutch edition in Germany last month, but I didn’t so I decided to pick it up first thing this month. It was okay, but nothing special.
Carrie Pilby by Caren Lissner. I, uhh… I don’t remember much about this book? I definitely didn’t enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the movie!
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. I LOVED this one SO MUCH. This was such an incredible audiobook and even though it took me FOR-E-VER to finish, it’s really one of my faves.
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess pt. 1 by Akira Himekawa. Twilight Princess is my favourite Zelda game and I’ve been wanting to pick this one up ever since I found out it was a thing. I’m so happy I finally picked it up! It really adds this extra depth to the game with this “backstory”.
A Court of Frost & Starlight by Sarah J. Maas. I wasn’t all that excited about this book around the time of release, but Sarah’s newsletter really changed my mind. I ordered the paperback right away and I finished it in less than 24 hours because OH BOY, I really miss this series.
Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas. Another SJM book! I finally got the time to listen to the audiobook and woah, this makes the end of Empire of Storms so. much. WORSE! It was epic, and I can’t wait to pick up a hardback copy and reread it with EoS before the release of Kingdom of Ash!

Favourite Posts

My Two Year Blogiversary post was such a fun one to write, because holy achievement, Batman! I’m so proud to be able to say I’ve been blogging (a bit on and off) for two. whole. years! I also hosted a giveaway, which is always fun to do! Another favourite of my review of Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody. I love this book so, so, so much! My final favourite this month is my review of Geekerella. I don’t usually like publishing so many reviews without anything “other” in between, but I wasn’t bothered by it because Geekerella is my favourite contemporary and that review was way, WAY overdue.

Blogging & Life Update

I literally sucked at blogging this past month. I cant say I hate it, though. Like, usually I’d (figuratively) beat myself up over not publishing or feel like hell about it, but I haven’t felt that way at all. It’s more like “I’m not in the mood for it right now so I’ll try again tomorrow.” And even though that might not be the best way to go at things, I’m sort of learning to not be such a perfectionist? I do feel shit and sorry about forgetting my International Bookworms Meme this Saturday, but that’s all. Also, you should definitely check out the link, because there’s an important announcement! I also haven’t been reading as much lately, so maybe that’s why I’m not blogging much, either? I wouldn’t say I’m in a slump, but things aren’t going the way they used to go. Which is okay, I guess. Also, I finally got a 27-inch monitor for my MacBook! It definitely created a hole in my wallet but it’s my most awesome investment and it’s great for blogging! Most of the blogging I did this past month was working on behind the scenes stuff, like the GDPR stuff, (re)scheduling posts, blog theme things, making descisions and changing things… Stuff like that, basically!

I have quite a few “personal life things” that I haven’t shared this one and a half month ago, and I seriously don’t even know where to start! In April, I told you I signed up for college so that’s still a thing! Most is taken care of by now (I think) and I’m feeling pretty confident about it. My biggest achievement this month was going to the dentist by myself TWICE. I had this really long and scary appointment and my mom forgot to ask for time off to go with me, and I was so desperate to get it over with, that I decided to go by myself (I’m at a new dentist, it REALLY helped!) And since appointment #1 was the worst out of the two, I decided to go to #2 by myself as well. My anxiety hasn’t gone anywhere, but it’s manageable! Also, (this might sounds weird but) Kaz and Inej from Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom really got me through that first appointment. I was listening to CK at the time and I just thought about them and it made me happy so it WORKED, yay! I also finally got a haircut last night (after more than a year, thank goodness!) and I’m counting down to Demi Lovato’s concert in Amsterdam on June 18th. I’ve been waiting ten years and it’s so close now!

Book Haul

I feel like I didn’t haul that many books this month, but I actually did?! I think the only one I bought when it was still April was Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I think that’s around the time I also got a digital ARC of The Warrior Queen by Emily R. King, which I will probably be reading during my summer holiday. I also got a digital ARC of Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik! *squeels* It’s absolutely amazing but since I’m super done with reading on my iPad, my progress is BEYOND slow. *sigh* I went to Rotterdam this month just to use this train ticket we once bought in sale, so I visited my favourite bookstore in Rotterdam and bought The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess pt. 1 by Akira Himekawa. Sometime this past month, I also managed to grab a hardcover copy of The Qeen’s Rising by Rebecca Ross for less than €5 on Amazon! In the end, I decided I was going to go on a book buying ban starting in the final weeks of May till like the 3rd week of June (I’m going on holiday in July and need books, yo!) but I sort of “broke” it already when I ordered The One by Kiera Cass in hardback for only €8-and-something. I’ve now got 4/6 Selection books in hardcover for less than €10 each from Book Depository! Seven books total isn’t all that bad for a month and a half, but I didn’t actually mean to get that many books, hehe!

June TBR

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. It’s a current read, but I want to finish it before I pick up anything else! I really gotta “suffer” through reading on my iPad one more month before I (hopefully) get myself a Kindle at before I go on holiday!
The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo. I’m somewhat slowly going through all the stories one at a time since I got it, but I do want to finish it before I go on holiday.
The Queen’s Rising by Rebecca Ross. I’m SO EXCITED to pick this one up! It’s a bit bigger than expected, but I’m sure I’ll love it!

I’m not sure what I’ll pick up afterwards since I want to wait until my holiday to read The Warrior Queen by Emily R. King. It’ll definitely be a reread since I’ll have FINALLY finished all my owned but unread books. And also, I’m just really now sure how much I’ll actually read. If it’s just these three books, I’ll be completey fine by that, but I’m guessing I’ll read more!

What have you been up to this month? Have you been reading fun books? Have you hauled anything nice? Let’s chat in the comments!
