Waiting on Wednesday: Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody

Do you ever find a book that totally doesn’t seem like your thing, but then you’re thinking more about it and it’s like “holy frickamoly, I actually really love this?!” Because that’s what happened with me and Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody. This one had been on my radar for a while, but I only got really excited about it recently and now I just can’t wait for it to come out!

Waiting on Wednesday is Hosted by Breaking The Spine.

City of Sin

I have a slight obsession with cities. Maybe that’s because I live in a small town and had never really been in a proper city before I was seventeen years old? Ha, anyway, I love cities and the city of New Reynes in Ace of Shades sounds epic. It has casinos, gangs, maffia… I would literally be terrified in real life but in a book?! I’m a mess for it already. YAY!

This Pinterest Board is Life

Amanda Foody’s Pinterest board game is strong, ya’ll! I love the aesthetics on this board and I can just imagine what Ace of Shades will be like. But I also kind of can’t because it’ll be too amazing to even imagine beforehand?!

Book Playlist?! Yes, please!

Amanda’s playlist for Ace of Shades has artists like Ruelle and The Pretty Reckless and I’m SOLD. Like, can you just imagine listening to it while reading the book and then having the Pinterest board somewhere close by to look at the incredible aesthetic?! It’s literally perfect. Oh, now we’ve barely even talked about the actual book… hehe! Also, I might have just found some new favourite songs. Just saying!

I barely ever read full excerpts, but with this one I really didn’t even need to. I read the first few lines and thought “Yep! This is my thing!” I haven’t read Daughter of the Burning City yet but I just loved the little bit of Amanda’s writing that I read just now and I’m sure I’ll love it when I finally read it in full!

The Shadow Game Trilogy

*Squeals* IT’S THE FIRST BOOK IN A TRILOGY!!! I’ve been loving standalones and duologies lately, but this just made me realise how much I love trilogies and I miss them? Like, now we’ll have at least two years to look forward to sequels and I just can’t contain my excitement!

About Ace of Shades

Welcome to the City of Sin, where casino families reign, gangs infest the streets…and secrets hide in every shadow

Enne Salta was raised as a proper young lady, and no lady would willingly visit New Reynes, the so-called City of Sin. But when her mother goes missing, Enne must leave her finishing school—and her reputation—behind to follow her mother’s trail to the city where no one survives uncorrupted.

Frightened and alone, Enne has only one lead: the name Levi Glaisyer. Unfortunately, Levi is not the gentleman she expected—he’s a street lord and con man. Levi is also only one payment away from cleaning up a rapidly unraveling investment scam, so he doesn’t have time to investigate a woman leading a dangerous double life. Enne’s offer of compensation, however, could be the solution to all his problems.

Their search for clues leads them through glamorous casinos, illicit cabarets and into the clutches of a ruthless Mafia donna. As Enne unearths an impossible secret about her past, Levi’s enemies catch up to them, ensnaring him in a vicious execution game where the players always lose. To save him, Enne will need to surrender herself to the city…

And she’ll need to play.

Ahh, I wasn’t really interesting in reading this book to be honest, but your blogpost convinced me more! I really like the pinterest board, it looks so mysterious and cool. It’s also very cool that Amanda Foody made a spotify list, I’ve listened to a couple of songs and I really liked them. [Adds Ace of Shades to Tbr], haha.
