Waiting on Wednesday: The Queen’s Rising by Rebecca Ross

You all probably I know I love adventurous books with castles, secret identities, and girls with swords, right? Well, The Queen’s Rising by Rebecca Ross is one of them, and I really just cannot wait for its release! This Epic Fantasy is inspired by Renaissance France and follows and outcast who’s bound to a disgraced lord and entangled in his plot to overthrow the king! Sounds epic, doesn’t it?!

Waiting on Wednesday is Hosted by Breaking The Spine.

In Epic Reads’ video about The Queen’s Rising, Rebecca Ross mentions that it’s “an adventure with castles, secret identities and girls with swords” and I literally just squealed because oh my goodness, those are my favourites! It reminds me of The Orphan Queen and Ruined a little bit. Can it just be February already?!

Five Passions

Some people are born with one of the five passions: art, music, dramatics, wit or knowledge. I really can’t wait to see what part this will play in the story! They all sound super interesting and I feel like this will play a big part of the main character’s life. It also feels like a really original thing to use in a book!

A Plot to Overthrow the King

There are royals involved?! OH MY GOODNESS, YES! Obviously, this book is called The QUEEN’s Rising but, you know… Ugh, I don’t know the whole royals things just makes me way too excited! Apparently Brienna is “put on a path to take down the usurper king and putting the rightful queen back on the throne.” I love this because I think that means Brienna herself isn’t a royal, and that’s quite original when it comes to books like this!

Slow Burning Romance

The slow burning romance that “sneaks up on you” was Rebecca’s favourite part to write and I already cannot wait to read about it! I don’t really enjoy reading about insta-love anymore, so the slower the better.

A Disgraced Lord

I’m way too excited about this “disgraced” part of this title. Why is/was he disgraced?! I was like instantly intrigued when I read the synopsis for the first time! I’m also interested to see what part he plays in the book. Brienna becomes entangled in his plot to overthrow the king, which means she’s just not on her own. Also, will he be the love interest?!

About The Queen’s Rising

Grave Mercy meets Red Queen in this epic debut fantasy, inspired by Renaissance France, about an outcast who finds herself bound to a disgraced lord and entangled in his plot to overthrow the current king.

Brienna desires only two things: to master her passion and to be chosen by a patron. Growing up in Valenia at the renowned Magnalia House should have prepared her. While some are born with a talent for one of the five passions—art, music, dramatics, wit, and knowledge—Brienna struggled to find hers until she chose knowledge. However, Brienna’s greatest fear comes true—she is left without a patron.

Months later, her life takes an unexpected turn when a disgraced lord offers her patronage. Suspicious of his intent, she reluctantly accepts. But there is much more to his story, for there is a dangerous plot to overthrow the king of Maevana—the rival kingdom of Valenia—and restore the rightful queen, and her magic, to the throne. And others are involved—some closer to Brienna than she realizes.

And now, with war brewing, Brienna must choose which side she will remain loyal to: passion or blood.
