Bookish Naughty or Nice Tag

I was tagged to do the bookish Naughy or Nice Tag! Am I on the naughty list this year? Or have I been nice enough to receive a present? Read and find out!

When Emily @ AlwaysOpinionatedGirl asked on Twitter if anyone would like to be tagged in a Christmassy book tag, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity! I haven’t done a tag in a while and I have less Christmassy posts scheduled than I’d like to, so this is a nice addition to what I’ve already lined up for you guys. Anyway, this is a bookish Naughty or Nice tag, and I can’t wait to answer the questions!

Received an ARC and not reviewed it

Ehrm. Yes, I think I’m guilty of this… I got an email from an author about her book like a REALLY long time ago when I was at the craziest point in my life and I haven’t even read them yet! I never promised a review, but I did say I’d consider it and… well, I didn’t really consider it at all. SORRY!

Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley

Oops, this reminded me I still have to upload a review! Anyway, my ratio is now 90% but it will be back to 100% when I finish this post, hehe!

Rated a book on GoodReads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)

I think I did this, but I’m also quite organised and spend a few days this past summer to really sort things out. I did find some “Review to come” reviews, but I’ve published the full reviews by now!

Folded down the page of a book

NEVER! *horrified gasp* (Although, if you do, that’s totally okay! I mean, don’t let other tell you what you can and cannot do with your books!)

Accidentally spilled on a book

If we’re completely honest here… Yes. It was absolutely awful. When I was a kid, I borrowed a book from a friend and somehow (I really don’t know how!) it got so dirty that my mom bought a new book for the friend I borrowed it from…

DNF a book this year

I did! Which might sound crazy if you only read my blog occasionally and know me for my “I don’t DNF books ever!” I only once “officially” DNFed a book (an ARC!), and it was about a month ago.

Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it

Never! I buy a lot of books because of their pretty covers, but I always read them. If I do like a cover but I don’t like a synopsis, I won’t spend my money on it.

Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)

I can’t remember ever doing this, honestly… I wasn’t a reader like I am now during high school and most of college, so I never abandoned homework for a book. I’m also quite hard on myself when it comes to things like this. Sure, I will read one chapter before I do “the thing I should be doing” but then I really do it. Usually, it’s the other way around, though. If I’m busy, I will reward myself by reading.

Skim read a book

I do often skim the end of books I already read before I read their sequels, but that’s pretty much it. There was also this one ARC that I didn’t like so I read like 60/70% and then skimmed it. Other than that, I’ve never skimmed a full book!

Completely missed your GoodReads goal

Yes, but in a good way? As in “I wanted to read 20 books but read 26” or “I started out with a goal of 50 and then doubled it to a hundred”?

Borrowed a book and not returned it

I think when I was little and still went to the library, I had this really big fine for returning my books really late, but it’s such a vague memory I can barely remember it?! Anyway, I don’t borrow books these days, so I can’t really not return them?

Broke a book buying ban

I’m proud to say that I’ve never broke my book buying ban! Honestly, I only had my first ban this year, and I had no money to break it, so… Also, I don’t really do “strict” book buying bans, if that makes sense. If I find a book for €1, I’m not going to not buy it, right!? Okay, so maybe I did sort of break it a little, but I also kind of… didn’t? Hehehehe, I’m trying to get out of this one…

Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about

Last year, back when I I went back to college and started my internship, I read books with the intention of reviewing them but I couldn’t find the time and so I never did. The only review I (thought) abandoned, was my review of Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater. However, it turned out I had already finished it! But no, I haven’t really started a review and then forgot what the book was about.

Wrote in a book you were reading

I never write/highlight in actual books! The only time I did, I was reading manuscripts from the publisher I was interning at.

Finished a book and not added it to your GoodReads

I’m a bit too obsessed with Goodreads to just not add a book… hahah! I scan/search my books as soon as I get them, put them on my “currently reading” shelf and update my progress all the time! I’m also doing the reading challenge so I kind of have to! There’s some Children’s books on my challenge page this year because of my internship, hehe!

That’s if for the Naughty or Nice tag! I was hoping I could kind of figure out whether or not I’d be on the Nice list but… I don’t even know! Like, I don’t like folding pages and writing in a book, but maybe Santa thinks it’s perfectly okay?! And is it bad if you don’t add a book to Goodreads? Who knows! Hehe, I hope you enjoyed reading this post anyway!Β Since this is a tag, I’m tagging Lara @ Words With Lara, Do @ What Do Reads and Sophie @ Books Like Wolves. Please feel free to do the tag, but don’t feel obliged! I’m sure we’re all quite busy round this time of year and blogging is supposed to be fun! <3

Are you on the Naught or on the Nice list this year? What are you hoping to get for Christmas?

  • dominique_x

Thanks for the tag. I really liked reading this blogpost πŸ™‚ I am not familiar with NetGally so, I can’t answer those questions. I think I will be on the Nice list this iyear, I take good care of my books, haha. We don’t celebrate Christmas with presents, but I am participating in two bookswaps, so hopefully I will receive some awesome books πŸ™‚ <3

    • Ayla

I’m glad you liked the post! I’d just skip the Netgalley questions or answer what you “would” do, or something. ☺️
I’m very sure you’ll end up on the nice list! If not for the books, then for the fact that you are a wonderful person. πŸ˜‰
We’re not really doing Christmas present in my family as well, I’m getting a few books but we’re not going all out this year like we used to, which is fine. Bookswaps are actually really fun as well! Will you be writing a blog post about it? I’d love to see what you get! 😊

      • dominique_x

I’ll write a blogpost about my bookswaps I think. I am really curious about my presents, haha. I also will post some pictures on my Instagram πŸ™‚

I saw the title, read the questions, and WISHED with all my heart that you had tagged me! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I’ve been naughty about most of these for sure. I think I’ve been even worse because I was recently contacted by an author and haven’t even responded to say that I’m not interested. I need to do that soon, at least. You have a 90% ratio? That’s so high! You definitely keep up with your ARCs! I’m currently reading one that I was accepted for at the START of the year. Oops. But I’m getting it done soon, and it’s really good! I haven’t LOVED all the books I requested this year, so I was a bit discouraged for a while to read the remaining ones. But I’m loving this one!!
    I dog-ear pages… shame on me.

I don’t think I’ve spilled on a book before, but I’ve done FAR WORSE things to them. I did spill tea all over my computer, though. I got it all out and it works perfectly, thanks God. I’ve got some high praise for Apple because I had literally dropped the entire mug. But shhh, don’t tell my parents.

I LOVE this tag. It’s definitely one of the best ones I’ve ever seen. Thank you again for tagging me! I can’t wait to write about my disastrous experiences!

    • Ayla

I definitely cannot wit to read about your disastrous experiences, heheh! πŸ˜‰ I’m really glad you like it! Apple is the best, honestly! I’m kind of obsessed and even got my Apple-hating mom to get herself an iPhone… ha!

I don’t request a lot of ARC (I think, compared to “most” bloggers), and I barely ever get accepted! So I’ve gotten like 11 ARCs through Netgalley since May 2016. It’s quite easy to stay on top of it!

Also, there’s nothing wrong with dog-earing pages! Honestly, people make such a fuss about it, but they’re YOUR books! I don’t see why it’s such a big issue. ☺️

      • Sophie Alex

Thank you for making me feel better about dog-earing! I don’t want to say it this way, but I just don’t care to bend the pages a bit!
I don’t want to request many ARCs anymore. I’m only going to request the ones I REALLY am dying to read and review. Otherwise, I have too many on my list and get overwhelmed.
My super post about disastrous experiences is coming up on Monday!!! πŸ˜†

  • Lara

Thank you for tagging me! I just finished writing this post (it’ll be up tomorrow) and I *think* I’m on the nice list. Hahah, I love that story of you getting a book so dirty that your mum had to buy a new one! I think most kids are shockers for keeping things clean lol

    • Ayla

Yay! I can’t wait to read it! 😊 It’s quite a funny story to tell these days, but I vaguely remember the anxiety I had over teling my mom (and then that friend) on how it for some reason miraculously got dirty (because I was SO CAREFUL!) it was fixed in the end, that’s what matters… hahah!
