October ’17 Wrap Up

Whew, I did it again! (Or should I say Oops? hehe…) I read so many books this month I can barely believe I actually did read them this month and not… last year, ha! I’m a bit early with this month’s wrap up as I have a blog wrap up scheduled for tomorrow, but as I’m not planning on reading much today, you won’t miss much. This month I read physical books, eBooks AND audiobooks, which is probably the reason I managed to read eleven books this month. So, without further ado; here’s my October Wrap Up!

Here’s what was on my October TBR!

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon

I started this one in September but then got into a reading slump and didn’t pick up a book for days. Which is kinda crazy since I read so much last month! It ended up being quite a quick read and I actually love it so, so much! It was such a cute love story and the main characters love web development and comic book/manga/anime art! EEEPP! Definitely my kind of book.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice & Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

I was not planning on picking up this book at all, but I am SO GLAD I did! It was an hilarious historical story about a bisexual main character who’s a boy! We need more boy main characters..! Or I just need to read more of them… It was super different from what I expected but loved it very much.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Woah, woah, woah. This is such an important book, which is honestly the main reason I decided to pick it up. Truth to be told, I wasn’t planning on getting it at all until I found it on Amazon for €4. It just didn’t seem to be my kind of book. To my utter surprise, I absolutely loved it and it’s without a doubt the one of the easiest five star ratings I’ve given this year. I’ve also reviewed it on my blog, which is rare for contemporaries. It was just too important not to.

The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud

I was looking for an audiobook that I could finish in only a few days as I was waiting for the release of All The Crooked Saints, and The Screaming Staircase had the perfect length! This first book in the Lockwood & Co series was a great read, and perfect for October!

All The Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater

I was hoping to finish this book in like two or three days and have my review up really soon, but that didn’t work out. I loved All The Crooked Saints, but I also had quite some difficulty with it. I listening to the audiobook, and I really want to give it another chance by reading a physical copy!

Green Tea by Sheridan Le Fanu

I went to Rotterdam for a day and bought two Pinguin Little Black Classics in my favourite bookshop! I did’t really know what this was about and chose it randomly. My first impression was that it was a fun little story about green tea. It was, but it wasn’t. Turns out it was a ghost story by an horror-fiction author! Ahhh! I really enjoyed it, though! Also, drinking green tea will never be the same again… hehe!

Traveler by Arwen Elys Dayton

I read Seeker last month and it was so good! I was really excited to pick up Traveler and I think I loved it even more than I loved Seeker. This trilogy is so terribly underrated, I cannot even believe it! Anyway, I couldn’t wait to pick up Disruptor! So I did, at the end of the month… yay!

Geekerella by Ashley Poston

I got the audiobook of Geekerella on a whim this month when it was a daily deal on Audible and boy, I’m so glad I did! This contemporary Cinderella retelling was absolutely geeky, delightful and super funny! It’s definitely one of my all time favourite comtemporaries and I already cannot wait to read it again sometime.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor

Whew, this was a strange one! First I abso-freaking-lutely LOVED it. Then some things happened and I was like oooookaaaayyyyy?! But in the end, it was REALLY good! I read little over half of the book during my mini holiday in Germany this month and it was a wonderful read.

The Wrath & The Dawn by Renée Ahdieh

It was a little hard to properly get into this story, but I ended up loving it a lot! I started reading this one during my little weekend getaway in Germany and even though I struggled, I always really enjoyed it. I actually cannot wait to pick up The Rose & The Dagger! The end was so cliffhanger-ish! Ahhh!

Disruptor by Arwen Elys Dayton

I just had to finish the Seeker trilogy before the end of the month, so I sat down one Sunday just to read It all! It was an epic story and the end of the trilogy was so satisfying! It’s definitely one of my favourite underrated trilogies and I’ll probably be thinking/talking about this one a lot in the next coming weeks.

Current Reads

I’m currently reading the Dutch edition of Once And For All by Sarah Dessen for a Dutch book club, and it’s just so exciting! I haven’t read much of it yet, but I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy it a lot. Plus, the cover is SO BEAUTIFUL! I’ve also started reading the ARC of Enchant by Micalea Smeltzer. I’m only one chapter in I think, but it seems promising!

Oh my goodness, you guys! I just realised something funny, hehe! Do you think Eleven from Stranger Things had anything to do with the books I read this month?! I mean, season two premiered on Netflix only a few days ago and now I’ve read ELEVEN books?! Spoooooooky….

What have you read this October? Any Halloweeny reads you enjoyed?
