A Guide to The Shadowhunter Chronicles

A Guide to The Shadowhunter Chronicles: A Summary

There are so many things to the Shadowhunter Chronicles that you sometimes simple cannot keep up. Don't worry, here's a summary!

Over the past few weeks, I’ve taken you through everything there is to know (or most of it, at least!) about Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter Chronicles. I discussed all the books and the movie/TV adaptations! Of course, we’re all very busy Shadowhunting down these books, and watching these adaptations, so I can imagine you simply don’t have time to read all those posts! Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! (I mean, that’s what Parabatai are for, right?) Here’s the short version of my blog Shadowhunter Chronicles blog series!

Links to the full posts of my Shadowhunter Chronicles blog series are down below! If anything from this posts interests you, I recommend you check out the full post!

Primary Works

I’m pretty sure we all know the most important books in the Shadowhunter Chronicles. But you don’t; they’re The Mortal Instruments (TMI), The Infernal Devices (TID) and The Dark Artifices (TDA). All the books (except for TDA/Lady Midnight) have different editions. Paperback and hardcover, boxset, special editions, etc.

The reading order depends on personal preference, but Cassandra and me, too! recommend you read City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, then read The Infernal Devices trilogy and continue with books four to six in The Mortal Instruments. Leave Lady Midnight/The Dark Artifices for last, because that one takes place five years after City of Heavenly Fire (the last TMI book)

Secondary Works

There are lots of secondary works in the Shadowhunter Chronicles, so I suggest you check out the full post. I’m just going to mention the ones I think are most important!

The Shadowhunter’s Codex
This is like the bible/most important school book for any and all Shadowhunters! The copy you can get is not just some random copy, no! It’s Clary’s copy. And she has drawn and scribbled in it! It’s the actual Codex that’s mentioned in this books!

The Bane Chronicles
Hop aboard the Magnus Bane party bus, everybody! The Bane Chronicles is all about our beloved character Magnus. He appears in all of the Shadowhunter books! All of them! This bind-up contains 11 stories + comic illustrations, and it’s definitely worth reading. You could also get the stories separately as ebooks if you don’t want all of them.

Tales From The Shadowhunter Academy
This one is a bit like The Bane Chronicles, except it’s all about Simon! The title might spoil you a bit if you haven’t read all the TMI books yet, but I’m not going into detail over what’s it about! The stories are already separately available as ebooks, but the bind up with new comic illustrations is coming out in November. You can preorder it on Book Depository* if you’d like!

In 2013, the City of Bones movie was released. It stars Lily Collins as Clary, Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace and Robert Sheehan as Simon. The first TMI book got a movie tie-in, plus a special hardcover edition movie-tie in, and a bunch of official merch! Makeup brand NYX even created a Shadowhunters inspired makeup collection. The movie sticks to the events happening in City of Bones.

The City of Bones movie kinda flopped, so City of Ashes was never made into a movie. Instead, they created Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments. The TV show, which is broadcasted by Freeform and available worldwide through Netflix, doesn’t just stick to the events from City of Bones. It used elements from the other books in the series as well. It stars Katerine McNamara as Clary, Dominic Sherwood as Jace and Alberto Rosende as Simon.

Most of us know that the Shadowhunter Chronicles was adapted as a movie and later for TV. If you didn't, don't worry! This post has all you need to know!

This was the last part of my Shadowhunter Chronicles blog series! There will be a Book Babble on Sunday discussing the series, but I’d like to know what you think! Do you like the Shadowhunter Chronicles?
