Bookish Photography: Harry Potter

Photography: Harry Potter & The Philosopher's StoneToday’s the start of my summer break and I decided to celebrate on my blog! I handed in my last college assignment last week, and it was a fun one! I had to do a photoshoot about something I liked. At the start of the course, I knew immediately I wanted to do something with books. I decided to make my topic/title Magic in The Real World, and use Harry Potter for an example.

 A little explanation beforehand
The idea for this shoot was to show people/you guys how magical our world actually is. All photos are taken in/around my home, or at places close to where I live. A small street in a nearby town turned into Diagon Alley, a steam train in my own town turned into the Hogwarts Express, etc. It’s all based upon the book (not the movie!) and I know lots of things aren’t accurate, but that was never the point. It’s all about imagination.

My photoshoot actually started with another photo, but since my address is on it, I’m not posting it to the blog!

Photography: Harry Potter & The Philosopher's StoneDiagon Alley – “The brick he had touched quivered – it wriggled – in the middle, a small hole appeared – it grew wider and wider – a second later they were facing an archway large enough even for Hagrid, an archway onto a cobbled street which twisted and turned out of sight.”

Photography: Harry Potter & The Philosopher's StoneHogwarts Express – “A scarlet steam engine was waiting next to a platform packed with people. A sign overhead said Hogwarts Express, 11 o’clock. Harry looked behind him and saw a wrought-iron archway where the ticket box had been, with the words Platform Nine and Three-Quarters on it. He had done it.”

Photography: Harry Potter & The Philosopher's StoneForbidden Forest – “‘The forest?’ he repeated, and he didn’t sound quite as cool as usual. ‘We can’t go in there at night – there’s all sorts of things in there – werewolves, I heard.’”

Photography: Harry Potter & The Philosopher's StoneWizard’s Chess “They were standing on the edge of a huge chessboard, behind the black chessmen, which were all taller than they were and carved from what looked like black stone. Facing them, way across the chamber, were white pieces. Harry, Ron and Hermoine shivered slightly – the towering white chessmen had no faces.”

Photography: Harry Potter & The Philosopher's StonePotions Puzzle “‘Of course not,’ said Hermoine. ‘Everything we need is here on this paper. Seven bottles: three are poison; two are wine; one will get us safely through the black fire and one will get us back through the purple..’”

Photography: Harry Potter & The Philosopher's StoneThe Philosopher’s Stone – “The ancient study of alchemy is concerned with making the Philosopher’s Stone, a legendary substance with astonishing powers. The Stone will transform any metal into pure gold. It also produces the Elixer of Life, which will make the drinker immortal.”
