Angelfall by Susan Ee

Angelfall by Susan Ee is fantastic. It's dark and twisted and main Character Penryn is a badass! Definitely a must read if you're into Urban Fantasy.
A while ago, Angelfall by Susan Ee was recommended to me by my best friend and it’s been on my TBR list ever since. I was going through Amazon Kindle deals and found it on sale and I do not regret getting it!  It’s definitely one of the best books I’ve read so far. My review is spoiler free, so don’t worry if you haven’t read the book yet.

“Ironically, since the attacks, the sunsets have been glorious. Outside our condo window, the sky flames like a bruised mango in vivid orange, red, and purple. The clouds ignite with sunset colors, and I’m almost scared  those of us caught below will catch fire too. With the dying warmth on my face, I try not to think about anything other than keeping my hands from trembling as I methodically zip up my backpack.”

Angels have invaded earth and started the apocalypse. Penryn’s seven-year-old sister has been abducted by an angel and the only option she has to save here is to team up with enemy angel Raffe. Together, they travel through a dark and twisted Northern California to the angel’s headquarters in San Fransisco. Once she’s there Penryn will doing anything to save her sister.

Angelfall is dark and twisted. It’s more than a little messed up and I absolutely love it. I had never read anything about angels before and had no idea what to expect, but it was really good. The author definitely researched the angel thing, because I was amazed by how much depth there was through the whole book. But yet, I still wish for more details! Yes, Angelfall really sparked my interest in angels!

It had quite a slow start, but with my reading pace, I don’t think I’ve even allowed to mention the word “slow.” Once I got past the first few chapters, the pace was literally perfect. I just couldn’t put it down!. Angelfall never gets boring and it just sucks you in until all you can think about are the most epic characters called Penryn and Raffe.

Penryn is a freaking badass. She’s not prepared for this new apocalyptic world, yet she thrives in it. When her sister is taken, she has no choice but to team up with the enemy, fallen angel Raffe. She might not be strong, or have special surviving skills, but she’s smart. Smart enough to save Raffe and use him to find her sister. Raffe is an angel with an attitude, but he also keeps his word. Along this journey they actually grow a relationship. It’s not really a romantic one, but there’s a start of something, which makes it amazingly romantic. And no, that romance thing isn’t part of a love triangle! That made me love the book so much more, because I’m quite done with boring love-triangles.

Okay, enough with the squishy love thing. Like I said, Angelfall was pretty dark, twisted and disturbing. I never imagined angels could be anything other than good, but boy I was wrong! There’s quite a few scenes in which I was like “what?!” It’s all part of what makes this book so good, but as I’m writing this and thinking about it, I’m like… woah. The disturbing supernatural/fantasy parts are just downright gruesome. The disturbing realistic parts are just really believable and I never knew that was possible.

My Angelfall review including spoilers and my favourite part of the book can be found on Goodreads.

My Rating

Susan Ee is an amazing author and I need to read the rest of this trilogy! I rated it 5/5 stars because disturbing and messed up, but there’s not a single boring moment and it and it’s incredibly believable. I’m blown away by the amazingness of this book! I still want to warn you thought, it’s not really a book for the faint of heart…

If you’re still not sure whether or not to get this book, here’s some free chapters!
